This writing is the result of an assignment, "If you were to change one's life/destiny,
How would you change it?".
I know life is full of hardships. But the main character, a young girl, overcame her adversaries.
Nonetheless, I believe the world should protect all innocent children from furious struggles.
Making up her destiny under my imagination, I would like to express my sympathy and love to her.
the summer of 1972, when the Cultural Revolution started to flare up(heat up).
Her life had been very comfortable with her parents who were both dedicated doctors. After Comrade Li, one of Mao's political officers, occupied a room in their apartment, Ling faced a whirl of life hardships. Her affectionate neighbor was forced into jail and disappeared. Soon, Ling feared for the safety of her family. Her daddy was arrested and vanished.
Nonetheless, she grew up while enduring her tough destiny in school and at home. More than four years afterwards, she noticed the world changed back and her sufferings came to end with the return of her father.
(Below is the parts which I changed)
After her daddy disappeared, she was determined to excape to Hong Kong, which at that time was not part of China. She practiced swimming everyday enough to cross the Han River. She and her mother barely escaped death running away from China. Luckily, they could contact with one of their relatives.
She kept praying for her father's safety. As soon as Mao died, and a new political party became in power, she came back to their hometown.
Eventually, she met with her daddy, who got freed from the prison. Their tears were flowing down without stopping. Her ordeal ended. Nothing was left but peace to her life!
